In order for the geophones to relay their information
back to the recorder or 'dogbox', they needed to be
plugged into a cable which ran back to the dogbox.

Here you can see the technique used to carry these
75 pound cables: the 'horse collar'.

Going throught the flats wasn't too difficult,
but when the layout crew ran into steep inclines
or had to cross rivers, the vets would grab
a set of geophones and steam ahead, leaving the
cabling to be handled by the suffering rookie.
