The vehicle in the picture below is the standard used
to acquire
vibroseis
data and is called a 'vibrator truck' or 'vibe'
(telling someone you work with vibrators provokes
interesting reactions).
A massive plate is hydraulically pressed onto the ground
and then vibrated at various frequencies.
The vibrations of the earth response are then measured.
